Last night we had a babysitter for the first time in weeks, in conjunction with a decent amount of cash. This particular alignment only takes place about once a millennium, so we took full advantage of the situation. We headed out for a late dinner at
Stadium Bistro, first on my list of places to spend real money.*
If you want to go out and spend some change on Very Good Food, without gimmicks, one hour waits, or suffocating crowds, this is the place to go. We came in at 9 and were the only people there not drinking at the bar.
After the bartender hooked me up with some kind of raspberry Absolut concoction, we got down to business. The huzzbund was starving, so I let him choose. We started with the beef tenderloin, then rack of lamb and venison. (Yum, meat, with meat and meat!** He was really hungry.) It was all wonderful, and they don't play when you say "medium rare," which was much appreciated. The venison was tender and buttery. The accompanying spinach was so good, I had to polish that off before I finished the venison. The lamb also had amazing flavor, and I hear the gnocchi was great as well. For desert, we shared a creme brulee trio with just the right degree of crunch in the caramelized crust.
After dinner we walked around and perused some of the artwork, which apparently changes fairly regularly. The interior is just bright enough to appreciate the art and the beauty of the food, and just dim enough to make it a good place to take a date.
Bottom line: this place is totally babysitter worthy. Next time we're up for a big night out, I'd be hard pressed to want to go anywhere else.
* They also have a
tapas menu that is very affordable, and not just available at happy hour.
** Check out their vegetarian and vegan menus.
