The hubby and I decided on Italian-ish food last night and didn't feel like a chain-type place, so we thought we'd drive around 6th and see what we could find. Read more... )

Last night we had a babysitter for the first time in weeks, in conjunction with a decent amount of cash. This particular alignment only takes place about once a millennium, so we took full advantage of the situation. We headed out for a late dinner at Stadium Bistro, first on my list of places to spend real money.*

If you want to go out and spend some change on Very Good Food, without gimmicks, one hour waits, or suffocating crowds, this is the place to go. We came in at 9 and were the only people there not drinking at the bar.

After the bartender hooked me up with some kind of raspberry Absolut concoction, we got down to business. The huzzbund was starving, so I let him choose. We started with the beef tenderloin, then rack of lamb and venison. (Yum, meat, with meat and meat!** He was really hungry.) It was all wonderful, and they don't play when you say "medium rare," which was much appreciated. The venison was tender and buttery. The accompanying spinach was so good, I had to polish that off before I finished the venison. The lamb also had amazing flavor, and I hear the gnocchi was great as well. For desert, we shared a creme brulee trio with just the right degree of crunch in the caramelized crust.

After dinner we walked around and perused some of the artwork, which apparently changes fairly regularly. The interior is just bright enough to appreciate the art and the beauty of the food, and just dim enough to make it a good place to take a date.

Bottom line: this place is totally babysitter worthy. Next time we're up for a big night out, I'd be hard pressed to want to go anywhere else.

* They also have a tapas menu that is very affordable, and not just available at happy hour.

** Check out their vegetarian and vegan menus.

(Look Ma! New Design!)
This morning seemed promising, but it looks like Valentine's Day is going to be a washout, in the weather sense anyway.

If you still haven't picked out anything for your significant other, I suggest stopping by The Bead Factory, on 6th ave (and Pine). They are open until 9 o'clock tonight. They have a beautiful assortment of beads, many of which will not break the bank. Putting together your own necklace for someone says "I love you" much better than cheap flowers or a dimestore teddy bear, and it can be had for about the same price. In addition to beautiful glass beads and the usual girly items, they have some more "manly-mannish" large beads that can be made into a pendant, if that is what you need. Better yet, go in and design a necklace together.

The Bead Factory also has a table where you can sit and assemble your necklace, with the help of one of their expert staff, and a little kids room accessible through a hidey-hole.

I am in love with their hours:

Mon-Sat. 9-9
Sunday 10-6

Hi... I was wondering, what can a couple do for fun things around seattle on a weekend? We've thought of pikes place... wondering what cheap but decent motels exhist around there if any? Does anyone have any good ideas for a romantic getaway?? Need a good budget and not TOO far away from the Tacoma area!
